I more than likely would HAVE to purchase one as long as they didn't make it an automatic or some crap. 400ex'ish handling, EFI, 5-speed, reverse, 650-700 powerplant, and I'm sold.
IMO Honda really goofed by not releasing it at least 2 years ago, they would have sold a heck of a lot of units by now.

This is an old topic, that we have done many, many times!
I use to think that I needed a 650, but now that I have a 450R I have discovered that you can "do more with less". I'm not sure now that I would buy a 650 even if one were available.
If you look at the dirt bikes, Honda is putting all its eggs in the 250/450 basket (a team Honda CRF450X won the last Baja race, beating a field of mostly XR650's!), and I expect that the quad lineup will be the same. Think about it, the XR650 has been around for a few years now, and it they were going to use that engine they would have done it long ago..........

I wanted a 650EX years ago. I loved everything about my 04 400EX (fun, capable, and tough) but I just wanted more power. I ended up buying a Raptor 660. Didn't really want to at first but it turned out to be an awesome quad, just had to watch the handling characteristics. Now I have the 700 Raptor and couldn't be happier. They simply fixed everything that was wrong with the 660. I'm not bias on brands (I really never been a big Yamaha fan) but I like a great quad. I too think Honda should have made one years ago. Its still not too late but the compatition has gotten much better now (aka; Raptor 700 ).
However, even though they haven't made a 650EX I think they did a dam fine job on the 06 450ER..........

Im not real brand loyal either, I looked at several quads before buying my Raptor 700. I think Honda really missed the boat before the 700 came out. With the success of the 660, I think Honda should of came out with a 650 and improved on the things the 660 didnt do well. Instead like Ozark said Yamaha looked at those things on the 660 and fixed them on the 700. I know a Honda would still sell if came out now but if they would of came out with one for say 05 I think it would of been the Top seller in the sport class.

I would think long and hard about buying one. Now with my son starting to ride, my wife showing interest, and a 4 y/o daughter, I could probably stand to have something a little less high strung than the 450, but I'm not looking to give up that level of power. Actually, if I were to buy a new quad for myself tommorrow, it would be a 700R, possibly a similar Honda offering.
