How's it like with no reverse?
#1
I am looking into a new 400... the 05 (?) and before had no reverse, i think. How is it like? I ride some trail, and get in some sticky situations, but not that many. I love to do jumps. I would rather have a KFX/Z 400, but hey if I find a good deal on a 400ex, should I get it?

I'm old school and everything I have ever owned (OHV anyways) has never had reverse. I have never wished I had a reverse gear. =]

For me, reverse on a sport quad is a nice luxury, but hardly a necessity.
The EX is a good solid machine. I like it for tight, more technical trails because its motor will lug down when riding slow.

Just as long as you can pick it up and move it, it's not a neccessity.
Difference between the old Polaris and the new KFX is like night and day. No wonder they came with reverse.

I sold my last quad with reverse and went to the '03 400 ex and i havent regreted it yet. sometimes it gets hairy, but as long as i can use my legs or get off and pull it out im fine. I think its just something else to tear up on you!

Reverse or lack thereof is no big deal. Sometimes you have to plan ahead a little, and sometimes you have to push. The only times I really miss it are when you get stuck, snow or mud, sometimes reverse can help you out there.

I went from a quad with reverse to one with no reverse. It's not a huge deal. You just have to be more selective about where you park. And remember to avoid dead ends.

On a track it's no big deal, but in the woods it's nice to have when you overshoot a trail or something.....
I think it all depends on preference..... I personally would not buy a quad without reverse if I could help it............
But a used 400ex without reverse is a nice machine.....
