Help With My 07 Rincon
#1
I rode my 07 Rincon for the first time Saturday and I have a question for Rincon owners. My engine has a very annoying piston rattle under acceleration. I'm not talking about the little decompression rattle at idle. It sounds just like the old classic big bore 2 stroke piston slap rattle you would get on the old 2 stokes when they were worn out, only worse. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks

I do not own a Rincon, but have owned many 4strokes. My hunch is bad gas. If it were mine I would drain the gas and put a gallon of 93 octane. If the 'slap' sounds like a diesel rattle I would assume that is spark knock from detonation.
What octane does the owners manual recommend?

Only had mine a couple of weeks. I do notice some noise at idle. More of a bumpty-bump sound. Sometimes a little of a rattle. Definitely sounds different than the other Hondas I own or have ridden. Goes away once you start moving however.
Great machine BTW. Engine braking takes some getting used too (which I haven't yet). I get a little slapping type noise when using the brakes hard downhill. Kind of sounds like the brake cable may be slapping against something.
Also , mine felt a little mushy on the rear end in turns. I thought probably just the different feel of the IRS. Some folks suggested adding more air to the tires. Some suggested up to 7psi on front and rear. I bumped mine up from 4psi to 5 psi. Definitely made it handle better. Long term, need to get some better tires than stock. Several have suggested Maxxis Bighorns for general trail use. I am not into mudding, so may give them a try.
Good luck....

Hey Hondamon,
Your not alone in this. My 06 is doing the same exact thing & its not getting better with time either! I took it in to the dealer where I purchased it & they just recomended me to put high test in it at which I ALWAYS have since brand new! Im going one step further with this because mine has a very anoying knock in the motor under excelleration! This knock is NOT a predetonation rattle in mine. This thing knocks pretty dang loud! Let me know if you come up with a solution & I'll do the same. People on Rinconriders.com forums are saying the same! I spent 8k cash for a bike not to hear the motor knock the whole day Im riden wondering when its going to let go! Good luck, Tony

My freinds has a 2002 Foremen ES, he uses it as a farm vechicle and since the day he bought it brand new it has rattled/knocked under hard acceleration and still does. It has taken quite a beating and hasn't givin him any problems so it might just be the way his motor sounds normaly. Dont know if this helps you but just thought I would mention it.

Most all of the rincons sound like a diesel under acceleration. It is normal. Nothing is going to let loose. Go to rinconriders and you will see tons of posts on this same subject. There are Rincons with 5k plus miles and doing the same thing since day one. Mine has 1200k and has done it since new. Its just the way the engine was built. One way save weight they made the cylinder walls thinner and you can hear it through the exhaust. Plus the piston is straight up and down so you have more piston noise than a v twin.

OK.... Lets say that this knock is normal for the Rincon as some of you say..... How do you explain why half have the problem & half Rincon owners dont??? Did Honda screw up & make their cylinder walls thicker & there for they dont hear, have a major engine knock? Im glad to hear that it doesnt hurt the longevity of the engine & much appreciate the input from you all, but knowones going to convince me that this gasoline engine is suppose to knock like H@#$ under a load!
