whats a better deal for a beginner/ novice rider, a 05 yfz 450 for $3500 or a 99 400ex for $1200. the yamaha is newer and faster, but is the worth 3x the price?

They both seem like great deals. For only paying $1200 for the 400ex you could easily upgrade it to be as fast as the 450.

I'm looking to upgrade mine right now, but I'm planning on running alcohol so it'll be a ltitle different setup. There's a TON of companies that have 440 kits out, just do some research to find the one that best fits you/your budget. I'd also suggest checking out exriders.com. They have a ton of info and good advice on the 400ex's.
