It is a torque sensing design, that sends the power to the wheel that doesn't slip. Mine has worked superbly, for 6 long years now. There is a good article on the web about diff design. I will try to scare it up and post it.
There was a post recently (in here I think???), where they quoted a Honda service bulletin that recommended an additive if one has a sticking diff. I will look for that too. Is it running like it is locked up, and hard to steer????

If it is still on warranty, make it the dealers problem. I know there are recalls on some Rincon and Rancher diffs, so check that out with your dealer.

nice link. its not sticking at all. it acts more like an open diff than it does anything else. air one of the front tires and all the power goes to it and the tire on the ground doesnt spin. id rather it be locked up!!!

Sorry, I thought you were saying that it was sticking. You said you couldn't get "just one wheel to spin", so to me you sounded like the two front wheels were locked (so one couldn't spin independently).
Try tapping the front brake with a wheel in the air, and see what happens. I have run mine with one wheel in the air, and that wheel just loafs. I very much prefer it to wrestling with a locked diff.
Did you not research the quad before you bought it? Were you expecting lockers?
