Default 06 450ER HRC kit install?

My dad and I bought the HRC kit to put in his 06 450ER. We did all the jetting, and put the cam in. But now the bike won't start. It turns over good and everything sounds fine, but it won't fire up. At first we thought we had the cam in 180* off, so we switched it and when we tried starting it we got a huge back fire out the exhaust. Anyone have any ideas of what to check and how can we make certain that the cam timing is spot on and not off by one tooth or in backwards. Also, I think when my dad put the decomp plate on he had it on backwards, I switched it and am fairly confident it is on right now. If you guys have any suggestions or input I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Go to www.rockinhorseweb.com they have a install page with pics of a cam in an 05 R. It will be on the left hand side of the page and scroll down to find it. Good luck. Sounds like its out of time.
