This is a topic we have done a bunch of times! I use to think I needed a 650EX. Now that I have a 450R, I realize that I neither need nor even want a 650.
They raced the CRF450X and XR650 Baja bikes in one of the magazines, and know what, the 450 was faster! The little 450 engine rocks. THERE IS A REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT!
I do hope everyone who wants a 650 gets one, but if they come out with one, I'll be spending my money somewhere else.

yes, i agree. There IS a replacement for displacement. With the right tuning and the right gearing, todays racing quads are passing up the larger bore quads, mostly due to a better power-to weight ratio. Keep the bigger bore engines for the ute's that would make honda's ute lineup a little more competitive.

Deja Vu, I have answered this topic before. My opinion is that Honda would definately make money on a 650 sport. It would be a better mount for me right now when putting the trails at idle speed behind my young son than my 450 is. It would make a better over all ride for any family outing or group outing where speeds are lower. Yet a true sport 650 could still be cranked up and run on that back woods mx track when the group reaches it. Like it or not, I think the big bores can be a viable alternative to anyone that appreciates 450 style power and handling, but needs a quad that is comfortable and capable in a wider range of variables. Me also thinks Big Red is gunshy from the trike days. All of there quads except the 450R seem to be down on power compared to the other manufacturers.

OK....THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT OVER ALL POWER...AND SPEED NOT WHO MAKES MORE TORQ>>>>OBVIOUSLY THE RAPTOR IS GONNA MAKE MORE PULLING POWER THAN THE 450R BUT PUT THEM IN A HEAD TO HEAD DRAG AND ON THE MX TRACK THEN WELL SEE >>>>>BRING IT ... THATS WHERE IT REALLY COUNTS NOT PULLING TWO QUADS WITH A ROPE!!! LEAVE THAT UP TO THE UTILITY QUADS.
SO IN CONCLUSION THE 450R WILL OWN THE RAPTOR IN pretty Much every aspect....EXCEPT MAYBE TORQ BUT I WOULDNT BE SURPRISED. DONT GET ME WRONG IV RIDDIN BOTH 660R AND 700R AND THEY ARE BOTH GREAT QUADS JUST NOT COMPETATIVE WHEN IT COMES TO 450"S IN MX.
