Default Adding Trail Lights to 250EX

I added two 50 watt halogen lights to a 2002 250ex. I wired them directly to the ingition switch with an inline on/off switch to the lights. We rode for about an hour and a half, cut the engine off, tried to restart, but the battery seemed to be drained. Atv would not start. It seems the new lights are pulling more energy from the battery than the atv can put back into it. What can I do to fix this problem?

Thanks,
Steve

One thing you always have to do when adding lights, is determine if the stator has the capacity for the increased load. I doubt the little 250 does, and I think you may have proved it.

Not sure what options are available in a bigger stator for that machine????

Stators rely on rpms to produce power. As a temporary fix, only use the lights when the motor is gonna stay at 3000 rpm and up. If you slow down and stop, turn off the extra lights.
Other than that, maybe the battery is on the verge of dieing , you could get that load tested.
I dont have the specs on the stator for that 250, but maybe someone else does. But its probably less than 200 watts @ 5000 rpm, and much less at idle.
