Are wheel spacers a good idea?
Front wheel spacers are a joke. Not only do they put lots more radial load on the bearing, they drastically affect steering. (especially bump steer) Rear spacers don't endanger parts, but they aren't as strong, and ad another way for you wheel not to run true. Moral: you can get away with backs, but it's better to have a skinny quad without fronts than to have a wide quad because of them.

Wheel spacers will give you more stability, but there are some downfalls. They tend to stress and break components if you are jumping a lot since that extra width adds leverage. A sport quad with a solid rear axle may bend an axle with a one wheel landing. You will see more bump steer and have more feedback through the bars with spacers too. They are a great way to add width for cheap, but I would save up for a-arms and an axle if you are into racing or big air. You could always change the offset of your wheels to add a bit of width to.

On what machine???????
I only run spacers for a very short time on a new quad, to decide what extended a-arms might be like.
A good way to go a little wider, is get some rims that are wider and have more offset than stock. Combine that with some wider tires, and you can get as much as +3" real easily.

I'll bet you are running those balooney stock tires, right???? If so, LOSE THEM! They do make the machine kind of tippy, and tend to push in turns.
Get a set of the new radial ITP TrakStars on T9 rims, and it will be a whole different machine! Did this on our 250EX's.
