1999 400ex purchase
#1
im going to look at some 400ex tihs weekend and i saw some real cheap 1999 400exs. Like 1900 to 1600 for them. im only worried that in a year or two when i want to sell it it will be worthless like my old warrior was. It was a 1996 and i got very little for it compared to wat i payed. So if anyone can tell me or should i put out soem extra cash and go for the 2000 year and up.i also heard of cracking swingarms in 1999

honestly i dont think they are much different 99-04 i think they are basically all the same i personally dont know of any differences on the swingarms or the the electrical system.. i know 99 was the first year but i honestly dont know of any changes.. if you cut the fenders on this 1 dont go blowtorching them because then you will lose value .. but honestly price on these isnt going to drop much.. but REMEMBER the newer you go the more they will drop$ in the end!! and by the way i threw that supertrapp in my dumpster and put ym stock z400 exhaust on that thing and it is a world of difference. also esp with the new clutch the other 1 was bad for a long long time.. that beat warrior wheelies easily thru the first 3 gears and 4th with a bounce... that clutch was wasted for a LONG time thats why it was so slow.. and the carp needed adjustment. along with the wiring

The '99 EX's aren't much different than the new ones. Reliability shouldn't be the issue unless the quad itself has been abused and not maintained.
As far as the value of it, even '00's and '01's and such aren't worth to much anymore, the used quad market is flooded right now so it's hard to get much out of them. If you're planning on selling it in a year, I wouldn't pay to much. As long as the quads are in descent shape, the prices you mentioned sound good.
