Default Can you run an 400EX with no airbox lid?

I know some machines run better with the lid off. I do it on my lt450r. I have a buddy that does the same thing on his 400EX. Can this be harmful to his machine?

If you don't rejet, you will run lean (Hondas are jetted lean to begin with, to meet emissions specs), which means you will run HOT, and you can toast your engine!

Not a problem if you don't mind rebuilding your engine every 100 miles from dirt taking the pistons rings and bearings out.

It will fine fine as long as you clean and oil your airfilter often.

BUT, I recommend getting a EHS or K&N high flow lid just to be safe. That is what I do with my machines and they have all been fine.

Just be carefull once you remove all your airbox stuff. The airbox was put on their for several reasons. One of the major reasons is water. Don't wash your machine without covering the air filter with a plastic bag...Also be carefull when riding in wet conditions, it doesnt take much to ruin your day.
