honda mechanic, my 2004 trx350 4x4 rancher battery failed after 3 years so i replaced it with a new everstart from walmart installed and charged connected wiring started and cranked up fine killed it and 20 seconds later i heard the main fuse blow changed it and it blew another, i ohm'ed out the hot wire to ignition found it seems to be shorted to ground acording to your wiring diagram on the older model the regulator is first in line from the battery i disconnected the regulator and the dead short disapeared, i tested the switch it checks out ok it blows the fuse with the key off!! help!!!!!!! i'm not an electrician but have a little electrical experience,,,, old hipi

 

I have an 86 that doesn't get spark either.
I have the OEM manual and followed the diag. The coil has too much resistance according to the chart, however it does work in my 88 300.

Any ideas?

Just a reminder on the trx350's out of the later '80's, some of them the ignition was AC triggered and others DC triggered. This can stump some of the best when overlooked because when ignition module is bad and the wrong one is connected to the wrong system, no spark situation will still remain.

Make sure of the exact model and year when ordering this component.

There is also some bullet connectors along the frame near where the seat rests on the side. Older seats can sag when a rider sits on them, making a bad connection-no spark.
Check the spark plug cap, coil and wire, pulser and connections like all the terminals in the rear compartment around the battery as well as flipping the kill switch back and forth, off and on in case it has a bad connection inside from sitting outdoors all its life.
I am beginning to cringe when I see an old one on the schedule as the wiring has been a corrosion nightmare lately...

I have a '05 450r and someone tried to hotwire it, so now i can ride it but the fan and headlights dont work and im afraid that its gonna overheat can anyone tell me what wires i need to splice so that the fan and headlights will work. its the kick start so I dont have to worry about the battery going dead.
