Default smokin!

My recon is almost new yet burns oil and smokes blue smoke, do I need to pull the head and with doing that will I see the problem?

I have an extended warrantee, wonder if it is covered!

Yes, take it to the dealer. Do you have black spooge coming out the tailpipe? Smoke in the crankcase? I just rebuilt the top end on mine because the wrist pin clip came out and damaged the piston. The cylinder had to be replaced. It ran fine but it smoked. You probably won't see anything by pulling the head, but the cylinder slips off after the head. It's actually really easy to work on, but unless you want to buy the parts and do the work yourself, you should take it to the dealer. The gasket set is about $40. Piston kit about $60. New cylinder is about $170. I bought the factory manual and it really helped and has all of the torque specs. Good luck and let me know if I can help.

Thanks,
It was buring blue smoke. I just took it to the dealer and they did a compression test and said it was high at 205 so their next step is to take it apart. I am sick over this and hope it is covered. I appreciate your advice.

Just got a call from the dealer, he asked if the bike had been stored awhile that there is a rust spot on the cylinder so there must have been water in there. I said, no we really didn't store it. They said it is not warranteed since water shouldn't be in there. Does this all make sense to any of you?

Okay, the compression should be 185 psi. The only way it would read high is if there is something in there taking up space like a lot of carbon build up. Make them explain how a rust spot on the cylinder is making the compression high. As far as the rust spot, tell them you want to see this for yourself. It sounds like a load of crap to me. When my piston and rings went bad it ate away at the cylinder at the top and bottom of the stroke. An idiot might confuse this as being caused by "rust". I can send you a picture of the old cylinder walls if you want to see what it looks like. I realize I'm not there to look at it, but it sounds to me like these guys are trying to get out of paying for your warrenty work. Keep us posted and go look at that cylinder!
