Advice on ATC110 Purchase - $300
Hey there,
New to the site. Great info. Looking for feedback on a purchase of a 83' ATC110. It has new tires, exhaust, airbox, chain, frt/rear lights and other various new goodies plus much work. Bike was taken down to frame and powder coated, etc. Engine not rebuilt but runs well. It did have a tune up as well. Smokes VERY little upon start-up cold. Runs and cycles well through all gears. It does need new plastic for rear fenders and seat needs a cover but other than that it looks really pretty clean and partially restored. They are asking $300 which sounds like a good deal to me. Never owned one before but rode them as a kid and young adult (I'm now 40). Looking just for something to putt through the woods at our family cabin, blast through mud, etc, but also realize they can be dangerous. I just can't afford anything better at this point as I bought a Honda Trail 70 (CT70) earlier this year and in process of getting it back to stock.
Should I go for it or are these old dogs a waste of my time?? If you are careful riding them are they that dangerous??

I would say go for it. For 300 bucks if you don't like it you can put the engine in your little trail bike and have some more power.
I rode one once and did not like the three wheel deal at all. That's just me. My friend has one (a big red)and he likes it. I could not get used to it at all. The three wheel and me did not get along!!!
I'd still buy it.

I would probably buy it for nostalgia reasons. They weren't dangerous if just ridden. But they don't like to turn fast and going up hills can be a bit scary. They tend to want to flip over. But if ridden with this in mind, it would make for a fun cheap ride.

$300? Go for it. Would be fun to just have around. People that ride them foolishly make them dangerous....
Only thing I hated about riding ATCs was getting hit in the knees with branches in the woods. Quads are much
more friendly on the knees.

I had a brand new 110 back in 1985. I loved that thing. It's hard to keep brakes on it, but it was a blast to ride. I personally don't think it's any more dangerous than a 4 wheeler. You just learn to lean and ride it safe. 3 wheelers got a bad rap from irresponsible riders and parents. So I say go for it!

Sounds like a descent deal, but I would consider going for a larger machine. The 110 is a physically small bike. As for the safety issue... I have owned a few three wheelers including a 350x when I was 16 - as long as you use some common sense and don't drive like a maniac you won't have any problems.
