Default 300ex mods...help!!

I am looking to increase power in my 1997 300ex. I ride when I can, but don't ride enough to upgrade to a 400ex or anything. I am looking for an aftermarket pipe. Are there any suggestions? My local dealer is pushing me towards the FMF powercore 4. I have a K and N filter already. What else would you guys suggest to get some more power out of the machine. I basically ride trails. Also what are some good handguards that look good on quads? Any help would be great. Thanks...

A header! That stock header is pathetic. When I bought my PowerCore4, FMF included a header at no extra charge. Just opened up the box and there it was!

Maybe an EHS Racing airbox lid, if you don't ride in a lot of wet.

How did you like the powercore pipe? Was it a significant power difference? I thought about a White Brother's pipe, but they are discontinuing alot of stuff. The E-series is gone and I don't know if it's worth $100 more for the E2 pipe without a header when the FMF comes with a header for $260

Powercore 4 gives noticable power increases.. decent pipe.. Powroll.com suggests the supertrapp ids2 which is also cheap .. if you can find one.. another thing you might try is getting a 14 tooth front sprocket and jetting the carb for easy power

yep. it kinda depends where you ride though, cause I really feel that tooth loss at the top end on the flats. Tires REALLY change your quad too. I'd look into handling stuff. I've found that I couldn't really ride that engine to its full potential without breaking frame/shock stuff. I'm gettin a 400 mainly for the suspension. Power is the added bonus in my eyes.
