1982 185 3-wheeler - no spark
#1
Tried another stator assembly and magneto. Still absolutely no spark. I even got brave enough to hold the plug and ground ny hand against the head and pull the rope. I disconnected the headlight from the frame since everything goes through the light..thinking if the engine switch or headlight switch was shorted out by removing the ground of the light to the frame I might get some spark..still no spark. I have tried another CDI box and coil from a running machine. Still no spark....I also tried another spark generator pickup from a running wheeler--no spark...What on eareth can it be? These things seem to have the simplest wiring of anything I have ever seen. What next? Unwrap every wire on it to see if I find a broken wire in the small bundle on the frame?? I hate to be beat by anything..I seldom fail or give up but this one has about eaten my lunch..

I'm in Mississippi, and I knew the guy that has always owned this one. He told me it had no spark but the price was right. He gave it to me..Bound to be a broken wire or something else simple. The electrical system is really simple and has few parts. Not anything I ever have to get going but after a while a challenge turns to a pain in the rear.

I have a 84 TRX200, which is close to the same. I have done some searches in this forum and came across a intermittent no spark that was the wiring going thru the case from the exciter coil in the alt. Also, have you check all your wiring, just ohming it out wont do, one strand of wire will ohm out good, but willnot carry a load. Disconnect all your components from your harness, rig up a fusable link, wire up a 12volt light, apply power to one end and the light to ground at the other. See how bright the light is. You could also put a volt meter across the bulb and check for voltage drop. Measure from your power source to ground first and compare it to what you get across the bulb to ground, which should be the same.

While you are waiting, if you don't have one already, I would get a manual, like a Clymer for it. I have one for my old TRX 200 and it is some pretty good info in it. Got my off of fleabay. LOL
