Default rubicon trans trouble , Help please !!!!!!!!

I have a 2003 rubicon with about 2750 miles on it. The problem i am having is when you are going down hill and let off the gas to coast i am getting a metal grinding sound. It sounds like it might be coming from the control motor? or the left side of the motor if you are sitting on the bike. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really can't afford a trip to the dealer if i can fix it myself . Thanks

Inside the control motor there is a worm screw. sounds like yours may be stripped and slippin. There should be alot more problem with your quad if that is the case but I would throw a new contol motor on there and see if it fixes it I think they run about 60 smackers

I'm sorry to tell you but the HFT unit which is 1300 bucks is bad and the oil pump and other 140 bucks.
Low oil pressure the pistons in the HFT cann't hold there place and they slide, sounding like spinning a ratch backwards going down a hill.
Take it into your local dealer have them do a oil pressure test, only takes about 15mins.

It does sound like a rachet turning backwards. Can i still ride it like this? Thier is no way i can pay $2000 to get it fixed. Is it the whole trans , that needs replaced? Do i have any other options? The extended warrenty looks good now!

I know it's not an easy choice but if it were me, I'd be considering buying a new quad if my Rubicon's transmission just took a dump. You could at least take it to a dealer to confirm the problem but it doesn't look good.

This can be a big risk with buying a Honda quad with the CVT. They are a lot of $$$$

F Y I
THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING with my ruby trans, with the racheting noise was do to the oil not being changed!
I had not changed it for a while. I changed the oil and filter rode it for 1 1/2 days with no problem. This problem has made me decide to sell the bike after hunting season! I was not aware of the cost to fix the auto trans. If it goes out in 2 or 4 or 6 years from now it would cost more to fix than the bike is worth. I love this quad, but i can not afford to take a chance on a $2000 repair bill. I will likely replace it with a old fashion honda 450 foreman manual shift, with extended warrenty!
Thanks to all !!!!!!
