I think I would go for ease of use with my wife. You really can't miss with either one, but I think my wife would prefer the auto clutch. As far as I see it, the 250ex would make less for me to do, no chain adj or clutch problems. As far as suspension, hard to say, how hard is your wife going to ride her quad?

If you can shift a manual clutch, get the 300. I was waiting for a 250 for my daughter (she was riding a Recon), but we were out at Dumont over Thanksgiving, and the kids in the next camp all had 300's. It didn't take long to convince her she could learn a manual clutch, so we bought a new one the next day. It's a SWEET BIKE!! The suspension is good, and the power is strong, but mellow enough that I don't mind putting a kid on it. It is too small for a large rider though, but then the 250 will be even smaller.

I'm only 5'7" and the 300EX feels pretty right, except that I can't get that stretch you need if you come off a jump nose high and have to lean forward over the bars to get it down. The 400EX is enough bigger that I have that extra room. The Blaster is small for me, but I can't say I feel cramped on it either. Anyway, last weekend a friend (6'+) was riding the 300, and we had to tip the bars forward for him, but I don't think he was miserable or anything.

for your wife a 250ex would be perfect. it isn't a manual clutch so it is simple to drive. easy maintanence because of no chain. it has plenty of power. I own a 300ex and it can be easy to a novice rider but it can also rip when it wants to!!!

my hubby and I had the same problems. we didn't know which quad to go with. i thought the 250 would be okay for me, but since i had just sold my recon, i didn't want to buy the same problems. well... we found a new 2001 300ex, used, for a great price. i guess i will have to learn how to use a manual clutch real fast! LOL... actually, i know how to ride, i was just afraid that my arthritis wouldn't be able to handle all the clutching. we shall soon find out. go with the 300, more power, better suspension, better ride.
