Default I need TRX 250 EX hop-ups, 2006 model

Hi all!
Just bought a new TRX 250 EX.
Running in and very impressed so far.
I'd like to pull some more ponies without seriously compromising reliability or opening the motor.
My usage is mostly outrides and playing around on trails & over obstacles.
I'm thinking re-jetting and pipe.(Std filter system to remain)
What size jet is recommended?
Can I do air / fuel ratio setting myself? What equipment is needed?
Is there a restrictor on air intake as on the CRF 230?
Thanks!

My brother has a 250ex, with white brothers e2 exhaust and k&n air filter, rejetted to white bro's recommendations. Honestly, the thing doesnt feel any faster at all than it was stock, just noisier. This engine is good and reliable, and fun, but it's weak on power, and there's too many bottlenecks to gain much power out of it. My best recommendation is just save your money for a faster quad if you need more power, there's not much to gain with this engine.

Hi!
True what you say.
My 1997 Blaster with full DG,K&N,1.5mm Pro-X kit & jetting can't drop a stock 2006 Blaster still being run in!
Best part is that I've swapped bikes around to negate rider error and same story.
I'm just looking for a bit of oomph,a new pipe & jets is on the way.
My pal's CRF 230 goes like the clappers with only pipe, jets & restrictor pulled out.
Thought my TRX could have similar joys...
Thanks for the reply!
Rgds,
Benjamin.

The best thing you can do for any entry-level stock quad like this is put some good tires on it. It'll corner better, grab traction better, and ride smoother. While this may not actually give it more power, it does get the power to the ground better, and lets you use it to it's full potential, where the stock tires would be slowing you down while spinning, sliding, and trying to tip you up on 2 wheels in the corners.

The crf230 isn't a good reference to compare the 250ex. Totally different machines. First, the bike is 150lbs lighter. 2nd, it's a completely different engine, with bigger valves, higher compression, and probably a less restrictive air intake system.

great reply recon99. I have a friend that did a pipe and jet mod to a 250EX and claims it's got better power. His kids ride it, and I don't think they push it hard enuf to really know the difference. I suspected that all that changes is the sound. My son wants to do a pipe mod on his 250EX and I don't want to spend $250 (minimum) on a pipe and jet kit, just so it sounds like it has more growl. ALTHO, I was willing to give in to a set of Bearclaws on the rear. If he wants to go faster, he should just shift gears!!

I posted similar questions about the pipe on this forum, but no one wants to respond to a Canucklehead! waaaaa!!

Hi!
Sometimes I don't think straight...Shouldnt've compared the two bikes...
I'll hook up the new pipe some time, just unsure of jetting sizes and such settings of air mix.
A good friend of mine develops pipes for 2&4 strokers, headers and slip-on's.
Slip-on will cost me about R300 (my 8 Rands to your $1),jet about $5.
Worth a try.
Oh ja,I've seemed to sort out the rough idling with fuel system cleaner and fresh gas.Goes much better now.
Just for a better sounding system now...
Rgds from miserable and rainy Jo'burg,South Africa!
Benjamin.
