Recon Carb Troubles
#1
I've been fighting the carb on our 02 Recon ES for a while now (I'm new at this).
I pulled the carb off, cleaned the interior and jets thoroughly (found a little crud), pulled the tank, drained it, and cleaned it (more crud on filter screen).
Put it all back together and having trouble getting it to start.
Mixture screw started at 2 turns out (counter-clockwise) from seated. No dice . Richened the mixture until now (with a new Iridium plug gapped at 0.35) it starts and idles. If I give it a lot of gas quickly it stalls - if ai do it slower it'll rev up fine). It won't start or run with the choke on - starts cold (in unheated MI garage) only without choke.
It sounds to me like it's running rich.
If I turn the mixture screw clockwise, it should lean it out, correct? I'm not sure how many turns out it is anymore, and I want to avoid seatng and starting over (I have a hard time adusting it - can get my hands in there and a right-angle screwdriver is tough to use...).
Am I on the right path? Other ideas?
