Remove the rear fender/seat assembly and you will see the airbox. Pop open the clips holding the lid on, remove lid and you will see the filter.

I use dish washing liquid and warm water to wash out all the foam filters, then let them dry and reoil them ; this is the easy way to do the job ! .................williebee

First off, use one of the super tacky oils intended specifically for air filters, like Maxima FFT, UNI or PJ1 filter oil. DO NOT just use engine oil, it is to thin and will get sucked right out of the filter, leaving it dry and useless.

I clean mine with PJ1 Foam Filter Cleaner. PJ1 cleaner has both an organic solvent to dissolve the oil, and a detergent to take care of the dirt. Spray it on, let it sit a few minutes, then RINSE FROM THE INSIDE OUT WITH WARM WATER. Dry COMPLETELY before reoiling.

It's not a good idea to just dunk it in a bucket of gasoline or kersoene. The gas will dissolve the oil nicely, but it will just leave the grit behind inside the filter. And, I haven't found that detergent alone will cut the super tacky oils very well.

I use the same stuff recon and it works awesome...After you sprayed the dissolver/cleaner on the filter and let it sit spray it with a hose and the dirt will come right off with no problem...Then after the filter has fully dried take the pj oil(it comes in a can and spray it on the filter to cover the surface and rub it in) make sure you wear rubber gloves so you don't get the oil on your hands then clean whipe down the airbox before putting the filter back in(don't wash it because you will get water in the carb) then you will be finished...any questions let us know

Yeah, clean it, dry it (oil will not stick if it is still wet), and reoil it (saturate it, then squeeze out he excess). Note: you can squeze the filter, but never "wring" it out or twist it, because this can damage it.

My personal experience with the sprays has been that they don't penetrate very well unless you use huge amounts, so it isn't as economical a way to go as using a liquid oil. After many years trying differerent things, I have settled on Maxima FFT for the oil, and PJ1 for the cleaner.
