would love disc brakes. drum brakes will work good, they just require some love making(tlc) all of the time if you want to play in the mud.

Honda seems to always stay behind the curve, the where the last to go to selectable 4wd and are now just getting into liquid cooled motors , disk brakes and only offer IRS if you buy there most exspensive Utility ATV the Rincon onces again.

IRS,Disk brakes liquid cooling and IRS have been around for years and is old news now,,most other manufacturers offer all those options on there mid range ATV(Grizzly 400 for Ex. ) not just on there top of the line flag ship model.
Honda has been using liquid cooled engines for years. The Rincon came out in 2003 and the Rubicon is older than that. They both have it.

the drums on a recon are not sealed as well as on the larger bikes. if you ride it in alot of water and mud they will get dirty!!!! i have cleaned the ones on the kids recon several times and they always have mud in them....

I dont think the drum brakes are so bad on the rincon at all. Yes disk are better but these stop on a dime. I have 1800 miles on teh original front drum brakes and have now done anything to them. I play in mud and alot of water. I have inspected them from time to time and they have been fine. Now the new ones have disk and you can get disk conversion for the older ones for about $300. I do agree that they have to get up to speed on some items but I dont think about the front brakes at all.

i'm thinking seriously about buying the disk brake kit for my '04 foreman from highlifter. it's 379.99. has anyone installed these? do they hold up better than the drum brakes? i'm in a position where i have to replace the drum, shoes, wheel cylinders and wheel bearings (again) on both sides.

my 99 300 has drums all round and ive never had a problem with them. up till about 4 months ago the rear had the original factory brake pads and when i pulled them out they still looked and performed brand new. the fronts are still original and still work perfect. they might not be as good as disks but they get the job done even after some fender deep mud and some water to wash it off. no fade at all.
