I guess it's time for a sixteen year old be the voice of reason. I will tell you stock-for-stock, what is and what is not fasterand quicker than a 400EX.

WHAT IS
1. Yamaha 660R Raptor
2. Bombardier DS650
3. Suzuki Quadracer LT500
4. Yamaha 350 Banshee

WHAT WOULD BE A CLOSE RACE
1. Honda Fourtrax 250R (which I'm pretty sure would win)
2. Cannondale FX400 (I'm estimating but I do know that the 400EX is the quad the FX400 is aimed at)
3. Suzuki Quadracer LT250R
4. Kawasaki Tecate-4

WHAT WILL NOT (AND I MEAN WILL NOT)
1. Polaris Sport/Scrambler 400s & 500s (all)
2. Yamaha 350 Warrior
3. Honda's own Fourtrax 300EX & 250X (and I know, I ride a 300EX)
4. Kawasaki Mojave 250
5. Yamaha Blaster 200

Now to the things that I have seen and done.
I'm 16, 5'9", 190-195 lbs., and I have beaten a kid that was only 110 lbs. on a piped Warrior in a 350 yd. drag race (I'm not sure if it would ever happen again but it happened once). I've beaten a stock 98 Sport 400 on a 150 yd. drag race (the sport spun its wheels off the line where a had a power wheelie roosting away w/ the holeshot). I've seen that same Sport race a guy on a stock 2000 400EX on a 350yd. field and the guy gave the sport a 50 ft. head start. As the took off at the same time before the sport could get an additional 75ft., the 400EX was already past him. Now, I've ridden a few stock and modified 400EXs. I've heard about my friend's 400EX w/ pipe, jetted, etc. w/ not that much else to the engine gettin smoked by a Raptor until top-end where his 400 could sneak back in on the 660R and they would run nose-to-tail. Then again I've ridden with a 16 year old kid that has a yellow 2001 400EX and we wnet down an old backroad for about 3 miles and all the way to through the engine, I never fell further back than 4 to 6 quad lenths and I know that it should leave me by more than that over that distance. It all goes to show you that with quads that close together on such short lenths, it's really up to rider skill. You put me on a Banshee and let me race a 400EX and I would probably get smoked because I've never ridden a banshee but after I got used to the 350's linear powerband, it would be a different story. Just my opinion, don't be upset if I said something bad about your mount. Just get your A$$ out there and have fun at whatever type of riding you do!!!

The sport is now called the scrambler 400 2x4, it's the same machine except for a few improvements.

When is everyone going to realize that almost every quad is good at its own thing. If someone is talking about a 400ex "smoking" a Raptor, Banshee or a DS, well then the only thing they can be talking about is on a track or possibly through trails, where 80% is the rider and the EX shines the most. No matter how you look at it a Polaris isn't supposed to be on a race track, but put it next to an EX, Raptor, Banshee or DS through a Mud hole and what happens? I care about being as fast as possible but still being able to ride in the woods and have something reliable and convinient, thats why I bought a Raptor. If i wanted Sport/Utility I would have gotten a Polaris. If i wanted to race MX I would have gotten an EX, and if I was a Duner I would have gotten the DS or a Banshee...Thats why you research before you buy.

I'm not going to say anything, I like the way you put each quad in it's place.
Great Post.

There is no way to accuratly drag race 2 qauds!NO WAY!

Alright there is a HUGE feild we ride in sometimes.MY freind was riding my 250r and I was on our 300ex.WHen we drag racedI could ALMOST beat him on the 300ex.

But when I was on the 250r I could stay in 4 riding a wheelie and beat him!By about 5 bike lenghts.

It has alot to do with the rider more than it does the machine.

We ahd a drag race going that consisted of these qauds.

A 370 long rod banshee with paddles
My dad's old qaudzilla
my 250r When it had a stock pipe and silencer
3 other ported and piped banshee's with paddles
a tecate 4
2 ds650's
and about 5 400ex's
1 scrambler 400 4x4 which was ported, pipe, ccome kind of roller clutch thing, and K&N clamp on filter.
The starting line was LONG.

It was about a 150 yard drag race in sand. The results where

Long rod 370 banshee by a LONG shot really beat us by alot.
My dad's old zilla
The other 3 banshee's
2 DS 650's
The scrambler
1 400ex (I couldn't beat him all day)I beat him after I got my pipe though!
MY 250r
rest of the 400ex's
tecate 4.

I Found the tecate on the web somewhere.I e mailed the owner he said the top end was worn out but it still had fmf pipe and silencer's

This was before the raptor came out.

Moded out 86 trx 250r
97 300ex
90 blaster

for pimpa400ex , i would like to know what kind ground u were racin on, or tires u were runnin that would have let u beat an lt250, because yes i bet that u did beat him but that sure as hell doesnt mean that all lt250rs cant beat 400exs because ive killed more exs than i can remember and that also includes banshees ,raptors, ds, 250rs, and ive also been beaten by them 2 but it depends on the rider mainly so dont underestimate quads and what they can do and think because u won one race that all lts cant beat a 400ex because i dare u to race another lt and lets see what happens maybe u will win or maybe u will loose.
