I am debating, which one is better for riding and playing in the mud. There is about $1200 difference in the sticker, but there is only 55cc different in the engine and the smaller one is fuel injected, which should be more efficient. Is the bigger engine worth the extra money, does anyone know what horsepower each is putting out or plain and simple which one does better in the mud? The engine seems to be the only difference in the 2 that I can find, the size seems to be the same, the tires are an inch shorter but I am going to put my 26 inch mud gears on it anyway, both ES shift 5 spd. Does either of them have a locker system in the front end? Thank you for you all's help.

Well if the bigger tires killed the 420 then maybe the 475 is the better choice. Right now, I have the tires on my 350, which only has like a 323cc (or something like that) engine and it does alright with the tires, holds it down some but still does good. Thank you for your input. Have you had any issues with the fuel injected part? Always kinda skitish about something new.

I had the big tires on my 350 as well, and it didn't seem to mind them as much at the time, but the 420 didn't like them at all........
I have since gone back to the stock tires on the 350, and after comparing the two sets of tires, the 350 does indeed handle better with the stock tires! Honestly, I think the huge tire craze is more about looks than it is about preformance. I fell into the trap myself......and threw away $1,000.

i was faced with the same delema my self, several reasons made me pick the foreman over the rancher 420, one of them and the biggest is how long hte quads have been out in the market. on the rancher there are more things to go wrong, fuel inj, liquid cooled.. another reason is from what reconranger said is that he the rancher didnt suport mud tires all to well, and thats why i bought the quad was to do some serous mudding. i love my foreman!!! i still cant get over how light hte front end is and how easy its to get the front tires up and over things. i have sence then made the desision that if i'm ging to put big tires on it i'm gunna keep the stockers because its such a fun and half way nible machine. the rancher by is a verry good choice also, the price is awsome for what you get with the quad. for mudding go with foreman, and trail riding go with the rancher. my 02.

You will lose power with either one if you go with bigger tires. I really can't see buying the Foreman over the 420. I just read in QUAD magazine that the 420 won a shootout of best quads under $6000. They said that the power on it dominated over the others including the Kymco 500 that was in the group. They also said it will wheelie just from hitting the throttle. The Foreman will not unless you jerk back on it.

for a mud quad i would definalty take foreman!! it can handle any size tire you put on it, its air cooled so no radiator to get stopped up and over heat its heavier and this helps in the mud. now for a trail bike and a little mud i would say the 420, but mostly mud has to be foreman hands down. and with a sra bigger tires is the only way to gain true ground clearance. you put 29 on a foreman and you just gained a extra 2 inches. it dont sound like alot, but many time its the difference in making it to the other side of the mud hole.getting ready to put 28 on my rancher, cant wait to try them.

I have a 2007 rancher 420 with 27inch interco swamplites and it will go through any mudd that i need it to go through. I have a friend with the 2007 forman and his 27inch tires rub. On the 07 rancher my 27inch tires dont ever rub and havent rubbed since i bought it. I have been really impressed with my bike and plan to have it a while. And as far as handling i think it still handles very good
