Default Upgrading 05 450R

I'm in the process of tearing my 05 450R apart. I wanna have it running by summer. I'm just wondering what everybody else did to their's. I have a UM Racing air box, need a filter still. A FMF Factory 4 Exhaust System and powerbomb header, FMF jet kit. Some aluminum moose handle bars and acerbis handguards. Looking at maybe ITP BAJA rims or carbon fiber. Will the black paint on the rims hold up, I've always gone with polished aluminum. Next is prolly gonna be a steering stem. I'm also liking the FOX float shocks. What places have good prices on parts also. Just looking for some idea's. Thanks for all of your input in advance. Red

Well if you are going to be rebuilding it and have the money I would get myself some new a arms and an extended rear axle...The hyper rims seem to hold up pretty good, but the only downfall is the price and you will want some good tires to go along with the rims like holeshots or razr's...The fox float shocks are a pretty good system, but also Elkas are awesome so you might want to price around or see which setup you prefer...If it were up to me doing a build I would personally go with the following:roll design +2 a arms, Elkas, hyper rims, Holeshots, Honda Hrc kits, Sparks racing or Dasa exhaust, Lonestar extended axle, braided brakelines, Flexx bars, Roll Design +1 or +2 steering stem, Elka 5 system steering stabalizer, Quad tech hood...Hope this helps you on you decide and here are a few sites

Thanks, it does. My 250R had about 12K stuck into it before I bought it, so I never got the chance to rebuild, just just replace pretty much. So many routes to go, just can't figure out which one I want to go yet. All input is appreciated! Red

The HRC kit is probably the best thing you can do in the engine area.........

The engine is prolly gonna be the last thing I touch. I want to take care of everything around the engine, then the engine. But yea, the HRC kit was always in the back of my mind. What difference does a sprocket size do. I know it gives and takes power away, but what size does what?

Well if you want more torque you will want to lose a tooth in the front sprocket or if you want to gain top end which the 450r is already geared high for trails go up in teeth..I would go with suspension and that setup like you are doing, but might want to slip the hrc kit somewhere in there as it isn't expensive and gives the quad nice gains.

Stock sprockets are 14/38 (front/back) Try a 13/37 set up. Won't gear you down quite as much as just dropping to a 13 tooth on the front.
I run a 13/38 on the trails and a 13/37 on the dunes.
Also think about engine mods. I went with an Athena 480 big bore, Hotcams Stage II, ported and polished head, Cut open airbox lid (HRC style), rejetted carb and FMF Q2 slip-on. I love the power it has now.
