The ticking might be a tight valve, that loosens up after it warms up???

Some break-in info: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Change your oil and oil filter early on, like at 1 or 2 hours to get any metal shavings out of the engine. Run a dino oil like Honda GN4 during break-in (~10 hours), but after that I suggest you switch to a synthetic oil.....my favorite is Maxima Extra. Some good basic oil info, you might find helpfull: http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm

The 20 hour valve adjustment is important as well!

Welcome to the forums...Don't pop the clutch you shoudln't have to at all if I could being at 150 pds pop a wheelie on an Ozark 250 which is a ute you should be able to pull a wheelie on a 400ex...The best way to go about doing so is when you hit the gas pull your weight back at the same time, but make sure you don't fall off the back and you should be fine...The noise is normal like the others said.
