they say around 20 hours but my fathers yamaha got done at about 30 hours and they said it didnt need to be done i did my 03 fortrax 350 with 500 hours and 12000 km on it and it needed it they were a bit noisy and it was after a fresh rebuild but there fairly easy to do if you been around that kinda thing my honda was .22 of an inch and the gap they were supposed to be set at was .006

First adjustment at 20 hours on a new machine, then every 100 hours after that.
My experience has been that the average owner NEVER adjusts their valves (good reason to never buy a used machine!). If this isn't a new machine, I wouldn't ride it, not even once before doing the valves!
