Default Ticking Noise Rubicon

Wondering if anyone can help me.
I have an 04 Rubicon that makes a load ticking noise, had the valves adjusted and that seemt o quiet it down for only about 100 miles and now it's right back at it. Machine has 4900 miles on it. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong? Cam Chain? Thanks guys.

i did the valves on my honda with 12000 km on it and it still makes some tickeing noise and my atv is still a push rod engine so it could be timing chain but i have just seemed to drowned out the noise and drive on

A few items that may cause the tick

Low oil level ( i know, sounds dumb, but had to say it )
oil pump or relief valve failure
rocker adjuster jam nut came loose
rocker arm and or rocker shaft worn
Bad Cam
-lobe going flat
-decompressor failed
-cam bearing bad
-cam follower face collapsed
water pump bearing bad
cam chain adjuster weak
cam chain worn and kinked

... to name a few

Thanks for the replies, I broke down and took it to the dealer, they are going to tear it apart. They weren't sure either after hearing it.

Oh come on that's a load of BS. I have done this for 10 years now, and own a 02 ruby myself.

Here's what I do get warmed up for starters, put it gear, hold the brakes, slowly start to rev the motor, if the noise gets loader, it's the piston/rod. if the noises stays the same then it's in the valve train.

I would say a bad cam chain or just a tensioner.

If they call you with the motor torn down, ask them what the oil pressure was at. A 04 shouldn't have a bad oil pump unless something failed inside and took it out.
If you do have them fix it make sure that they hade taken apart and cleaned the oil tank.

Maybe its a honda!!! Just picking. Sounds like timing chain loose. Might have that checked or bring it to your local repaire shop and run it for them see what they tell you. I had to change the one on my 1990 Bayou 300 last year. It was making loud ticking noise.

Cluby,
I took it to the dealer and they called me yesterday and said that the valves are way out of adjustment. I just had them adjusted a 100 miles earlier at another dealer so I'm not sure if I have something going wrong in the valve train or just had a "bad" mechanic adjusting the valves. I will try your idea if it starts acting up again. The noise does sound like it's coming from the top end. Thanks for all the replies everyone!

Cluby, you sound like you know your Honda's, are you a Honda mechanic?

Oil flow is such a huge part of the rubicons makeup... That was why I chose to use the K&N OIL FILTER.
increase flow. I can honestly say I think it made it sound better.... Hell Ive complained about the honda TICK since I bought it 5 years ago!!!!!!!!
Well goto K&N web site look up atv oil filter and then you make the choice... Its either all hype or its really good. THAT WILL BE YOUR CHOICE.
