Everything is the same on the 250x and 300ex.. the cams are same, heads, cylinders and everything.. all they did is put a little bit longer stroke on the bike and made it eletric start... The 250x is alittle faster to me.. might just be b/c its lighter than the 300.... its only like 2mph faster though its just inches by... also the 250x is foward kick start... If you looking for after market they can be made to be pretty mean for there class.. But its going to take the money...

400ex A-arms... +2 help alot.. I have them on mine.. 400ex and 250r A-arms will both fit no problem... There are alot of differnt brands of Axles also.. +4 durablue heavy duty is what i put on mine.. Going to get the Aluminum hubs soon.. Take that goofy looking headlight and bracket on the bike and it will look alot better.. Mair sells aftermarket plastics.. that give it a really really good look..... looks alittle like the 450r.. also get a cam.. they help a tone!! Im selling an entire 250x engine soon on Ebay.. that has alottt of modds.. if you do any work there you could buy it off of me and put my top end on your bottom.. I have about 1300bucks in the engine.. you could buy my whole engine for abt 400 bucks... and be way farther ahead.. Has clutch and everything in it... with 14 tooth front sprocket, MX portjob, proformance cam, with Titanium valves, head has been drilled and retapped for proformance... 78mm big bore kit 11 1/2:1 compression... i dont have but abt 35hours on the bike... They sell a kit for abt 90 bucks that will let you put 400ex or 450r shocks on your bike... I have it done to mine with 450r shocks with the lighter springs.. Works wonders... U will also need a carb.. I have a 34mm mikuni flatslide carb that goes with the engine i will sell also.. just make an offer.. well hope this helps....

Just for the record. The transmissions are different. The gears are smaller in the 250 than the 300 and are just a little different ratio. Thus making up the speed difference. (I've been there and tried that, you can swap them, you just can't get the cases back together.) The heads are slightly different also. The combustion chamber is just a little different. You can run the same pistons in either but the compression ratio will be slightly different. (our 300 piston is actually a 13:1 piston for a 250)
Just a little FYI !!

So are you saying that if you stuff a 300 piston into a 250 it will run 13:1 compression? Also I am wondering if anyone has a stock exhaust (or aftermarket) for sale? I bought an 87 250X from my cousin in half a thousand pieces and the exhaust, shift lever and and front plastic are all missing. It has weak compression and needs a rebuild, any preferences on piston kits?
