IMO.... You should have a professional replace the rings, if you have never done it before it wont be easy and just reading an instruction manual is not going to be enough ......

Taking off the pastics will make it easier to get at but not manditory... its a pain in the butt, but you can get at it without removing anything. You will need a special plug wrench which is included in your ex tool kit. If you dont have one you will either have to buy one or grind down an old socket you have so the walls are thin enough to allow full contact with the plug.
