pipe glowing and flames?
I have heard a few different things on this subject and just wanted to clarify and make sure my info is correct...this is what I heard that when a quad is jetted wrong and is running rich that the pipe will turn red causing it to backfire with a orange/red flame...when the quad backfires and a blue flame comes out it is running lean....Is this info correct if not please clarify...because I aways thought that when a pipe is red (in my case a 450r) when I first got it it was red and people say that the Honda 450r runs lean from the factory and that is what I always thought, but I have had people disagree with me and want to find out for sure...Thanks

Yea I know mine isn't running that way, I was only asking because I was sure and know that when it runs lean either the sidewall of the pipe is either thin or it is runnign lean and you will get a glowing pipe...Well I went into the can am forum and was corrected and told that a glowing pipe means it is running rich and this came from someone that knows what he is talking about so it made me double think myself, but he was wrong. Thanks guys and I read that first part about the flames somewhere thats why I added it.

Lean engines run hot, and that can light up your header! Lean machines also tend to have deceleration backfire.
Might be something on it in here: http://www.dansmc.com/MC_repaircourse.htm
Just because a machine had FI, doesn't mean it isn't lean! They all run them lean to meet emissions, FI or not......

Once my quad was jetted lean and rich at the same time and the CDI was mest up. So When I would gold it full throttle going down the road it would sound like a fully auto shot gun and had almost steady flames shooting out the back. It was sweet other than having no power.
