TRX 90, EGR?
#1
My son has an 03 TRX 90. There is a chrome pipe that is bolted to the right side of the cylinder and I assume it is an EGR type system. I want to know if I can remove it and block off the port with a plate. Or should I plumb it to the exhaust pipe.
Thanks,
Ben

umm, i dont know that if that's an EGR type thing or not, but if it is, i would not block it off. EGR reduces some emissions but more importantly it reduces the combustion chamber temp from reaching severe levels during brief wide-open throttle situations. A trx90 has a pretty small engine, and melting that head down wouldnt be too hard to do.

I did a little research and found that this "EGR" system did not show up until 99. It seems to me that heat would not be a concern as this is routing some of the hot exhaust gas right back into the engine. I would think there would be a little performance gain by not having the hot exhaust go back into the engine and the engine would run cooler. What is the difference in operatinal design between this engine and a 98 or older engine that did not have this port on the cylinder?
