Cold Starting? What has happened to Honda?

Well you may be right with other models, but my Foreman ES starts and runs at -40F without using the primer. The trick is to turn the key on and leave it on for 30 sec to 1 minute so the carb heater can warm the carb a little before starting, pull the choke, then start. It will only need to run for a minute or so with the choke on. I usually let it run 5-10 minutes before taking off, it's much better for the machine (no different then a cold car or truck).

Honda32,
Last weekend we went rideing in the mountains & it was in the low 20's. Sure I had to use the choke but she started right up. Much of the misinformation on these forums are from people who don't have any idea what they are talking about or they get some kind of warped pleasure from stirring things up.

either my 400 is always hard to start, or it starts good in the cold, lol.
i always, warm or cold, never matters, it's like there is no temperature difference to my quad, have to pump the throttle 3-4 times, then start it holding the throttle in 1/5 the way in, and it will idle. I then hold the gas in a litttle bit to let it idle higher for aobut 2 min, then after that it idles flawlessly.
you hear alot of the old "-450 and the ole honda started right up" I guess the hillbilly's ULTIMATE quad is one that can start in -100 degree weather, with a full cab, 8x8 wheels, dully in the last 4. With a Big winch that can pull a scyscraper over. However speed dosen't matter so the top speed can be a mere 20. LOL
merry christmas, later

First of i have 400ex, everyone knows they are cold natured. It starts fine, it wouldn't idle at -10, all i did was turn up the idle a 1/4 turn. My dad has a 3002x4, it starts fine. In my opinion if you can't get a honda started when it is cold outside then you don't know your machine. People complain how hard they are to start but they don't even use the primer button that honda says to use when it is really cold. Wake up call if you don't know your quad don't complain about it.

My Rancher had a problem starting and at first I thought it didnt want to run in the cold. What happened was since i didnt keep my tank full, it got condensation in it and the water in my tank and carb caused the problem. I opened the drain screw on my carb and now it starts great at any temp !!! I slightly richened the mixture screw and it helped too.
