Default 01 rancher chain noise when shut off?

My 2001 Rancher is making a funny sound when I shut it off. I'm only guesing, but think my cam chain sounds like it runs for about 4-5 seconds after I turn the ATV off then it makes a little clunk or like it comes to a sudden stop. IT sounds like something is slipping over teeth & then stops with a light clunk. Is it my cam chain & can I fix it myself ?
It has over 12,000kms on it.
Thanks in advance.

Is it an easy fix? do I have to replace the starter?

Default 01 rancher chain noise when shut off?

my buddies atc 200 did that, made a sound like something was still spinning after the motor was shut off, the suddenly stopped with a light clunk. Turned out to be the one-way clutch that connects the cetrifugal clutch to the crankshaft. being you have a rancher, i bet theres a similar part in there that's going bad, has the same design clutch. see if you can listen to where in the engine the noise is coming from. if it's comiing from the front of the engine down by the angle sensor, that's probably what it is. If it's coming from the back of the engine, might be starter or possibly recoil parts.

It's not your cam chain. if it was your cam chain, it would do it once and then it would not run again.
