What does a axle carrier do? I seen them in dirt wheels for the RAD racing designs. Like tapered and twin row. What does this all mean and does it make that much of a difference?

I have a twin row carrier. It is aluminum cnc machined from Lonestar. The major difference between the stock 400EX and my twin row is that the twin row has 4 fafnir roller bearings as opposed to the stock only 2.

The importance is in the durability. On severe jumping it is possible to crush the roller bearings. By adding two more it really improves the strength.

Another nice feature is that once installed you can just take the disk brake off from the axle and remove the chain and just pull the whole assembly out and grease your axle carrier. It really is simple I think I made it sound more complicated than it actually is.
