93 Fourtrax 4x4
#1
I have just recently gotten the 93 fourtrax 4x4 out of the barn after been sitting there since 1993 . Rebuilt the carb and she runs great , but gets pretty hot after only a few minutes of ridding . Changed the oil but forgot the filter , could that be causing it? Also the local dealer said it has a cooling fan , but where is it? I can't find it...
Also needing a good used seat , any help???

No TRX300 ever made came equipped with a cooling fan. However, it was offered as an option through the Honda Accessory program. It would have had to been purchased from a dealer and installed. I take it you got that info from a young chap at a parts desk because the cooling fan parts are shown on the parts catalogs but if looked at carefully, they are marked "ACC". As for your overheating issue, those old TRX300s ran on the hot side anyway. Does it just "feel" hot or is it actually getting hot enough to trigger the oil temp light?? If its not triggering the light, but the light does come on momentarily when you start the engine, the sensor is good and its running fine.
But if it is running hot, there's a couple thing that you can look into. First, if this thing has been sitting since 1993, chances are good that your muffler has some type of rodent nest remnants clogging part of it. Check for a restriction there. Somtimes revving the engine isnt enough so be sure its clear. The same can happen onthe intake side causing a lean condiiton which causes overheating. So do the same with the airfilter, airbox, AND the air ducts....be sure they are clear.
Another possibility is that you are running a lean fuel/air mixture due to the carb rebuild. Many aftermarket carb "kits" do not even come with proper jet sizes. Especially those from Taiwan. Confirm that you are using the same or at the least, very close sized jetting. Most notably the pilot jet. Then set the mixture screw according to what is recommendeed for that model. I cant remember what it is on the 300s. Maybe someone here can help with that. If not, check your manual if you have one or give a ring to your local dealer's service department and ask very, very nicely for the info.
Hope this helps.
