Default 04,450r low end issues.

please help! what is the problem with this trans clatter when lugging @ low rpm?i have got people telling me to go down in sprocket size, adjust carb needle,or pack the pipe for more back pressure. i'm thinking maybe a heavier flywheel' seems to be the norm with most "woods"quads. has anyone tried this?& what kind of results did you have? i know this bike was made to race, but" c'mon man" there isn't a track whithin 150 miles of me! i'd hate to have to trade over to a raptor just to get rid of this clatter so any advice is appreiciated. thanks"

This frame handles great in the woods, but frankly this engine just revs to much for the tight/slow/technical stuff. When I ride woods, I leave the 450R at home and take the 400EX!

I ride the R mostly in the open desert, and even there I went down a tooth in front for more low end. Mine still goes 25 mph at idle in 1st gear. Honda geared this thing tall, because I think they were afraid it would wheelie so easily that everybody would kill themselves on it if they put any kind of "normal" gearing on it. The 04/05's are worse than the 06/07's in this respect.

As for the clatter, you just have to rev this engine out to get past that, then slip your clutch when you need to be riding slow....just like the old 2-stroke days!

also have 06 kfx 400, but it's not a "killer"like the 450. i've already gone down on the front sprocket, this does'nt seem to be a gearing issue, just try'in to find some low end torque.

Bottom end grunt just isn't what this engine was designed for. Rev it out an use the clutch, that's what you have to do........
