Default oil question for my 400

my 400ex has been smoking for awhile now...it smokes the worst at gear changes and when the RPM's keep going back and forth alot. anyway, i was wondering if i start running 20w50 oil will that help cut back on the smoke because it's thicker? thanks.

Default oil question for my 400

First off, you need to properly diagnose your problem. It could be rings or valve guide seals. Do a compression and leak down test, and if that is ok it is probably your rings.

If it is rings, a thiker oil might help a little, but what happens when the weather turns cold and you have to go back to a thinner oil? Find out what the problem is and get it fixed.....
