If the manuals are all so great, tell me why ALL of the big bore ATVs have automatic transmissions. Maybe you'd better call the manufaturers and get them straightened out.

 

The reason everyone has gone to automatics......their marketing research has told them that the masses of relatively unsophisticated buyers these days, have no idea how to manage a manual transmission....not even a relatively simple autoclutch one!

Back in the early days of 3-wheelers and quads, most eveybody had previous experience on a dirt bike. Shifting wasn't an issue in those days. Then quads got really popular....and you got this flood of rank novices who had never even driven a car with a manual transmission, much less a dirt bike. Manufacturers realized that if they were going to attract this market segment, they were going to have to put weenie no skill/no brains required automatic transmissions on their machines! This is lowest common denominator marketing at its finest.....the dumbing down of the sport!

All I can say is, I prefer the brotherhood of real men who shift with their foot! I can teach a little kid to ride a manual like a pro in half a day. Yet, there are hoards of adults who don't even have the guts to ever try a manual, and ultimately find out that it is no big deal. Pretty sad!

That's the stupidest thing I've ever read on a forum! If I rode with you I would need an ES shifter to keep my foot rested up from kicking your ***! Brotherhood of "real men".......good lord, give me a break!

Twin420s you haven't read much in the way of forums then if you think that's the stupidest.

Personally I wouldn't have an ES model with all the problems I seen with them over the years.

 

Dumb the sport down enough....and almost anybody will show up! I just cringe when I meet a frail senior citizen out on the trail on a cushy cruiser couch fully automatic 800cc, 800 pound utility accident waiting to happen!

And go ahead, dumb the sport down even more by making side-by-side automatics that drive just like a car.....

 

I didn't say anything about ES shifter problems, I think it's rediculous to think of yourself as more manly just because of shifter placement. Either shifter, ES or manual with an auto clutch are so brainless simple a young kid could can easily operate them. To go around spouting about being in the brotherhood of real men over such a childish accomplishment is, well, childish. Brotherhood of real men! sounds like gay trail pirates.

 

If you ride in mud and snow then you will quickly realize the advatange an auto tranny has over an auto clutch tranny.

Better not take up snowmobiling. Tough to find a manual.

I must really have no skills or brains..........
I tow my weenie no skill V Force with my no skill D Max with a weenie Allie tranny.

The race car I drive also has a weenie no skill turbo 400 in it....... Maybe that's why I put the tow boat cars on their trailers round after round? LOL Wait, wait, wait, even John Force even drives a weenie no shift car!!!!! Hell, even Waren Johnson has an auto clutch!!! But he has a little skill, he still has to shift!!!

When I get old I'm going to get a weenie no skill electric wheel chair!!!
