I'm not currently shopping for a Rubicon, but if you check the Honda US website, their MSRP for that model is $6999 US. At the current Cdn/US exchange rate of 1.5, guess what the Cdn price should be? $10,498 Cdn! I wouldn't say the Honda is necessarily puttng it to the Cdn buyers, as much as the other manufacturers may be selling somewhat more mature models. Why sell something for less than MSRP when you know it's going to be a hot seller, with people waiting in line to get one? Do you think Honda is going to discount the price on what many consider to be the "ATV of the Year"? Maybe an individual dealer will, but Honda Canada's marketting department won't. If money is a big issue, than vote with your $$ and go elsewhere. If you absolutely have to have a new Rubicon now, get in line and open you wallet. The market sets the price, and this particular model is hot.

One last update. Thanks to all who replied to this post. I have compiled quite a bit of information and pricing on the Rubi. Bottom line for me: this bike is overpriced in Canada. The best price (including tax) reported paid was $10,300. Add a winch a plough for $1300, total $11,600. I just bought my SP500HO with winch and plough for just over $9400 (including tax). Even though my first choice was a Rubi, I just couldn't justify the difference. I did file a complaint to Honda, but with record sales last year, I'm sure it fell on deaf ears. Thanks for all the valuable information and advice.

jeffg has it right. The dealers out here know that they can sell all the Rubicons that they can get at the moment, so they sure aren't going to discount them until they aren't selling. Here the price is between $10,300 and $10,500. They've had them in stock now for a few weeks, and most were sold before they even arrived. Like jeffg said, its supply and demand. When Kawasaki releases the 650, the price on the Rubicon will most likely drop. If I wanted a Rubicon, I would wait until then. It will be Kawasaki's turn to demand top dollar, and from what the dealer here told me, (they're expecting to have a line-up at their doors) the 650 won't be cheap---probably over $10,0000---at least at first.

When I started looking at buying a new Quad, the one I was most interested in was the Ruby. I started checking with dealers here in Calgary and their price on them was $10,500 with a June delivery - that's right, they've pre-sold all their stock up to June.

The same dealer that sells the Ruby for $10,500 sells the Sportsman 500HO for $9000.00.

To me, the Ruby just isn't worth $10,500 - but I must be the minority since the dealer has pre-sold his entire stock. Someone is happy to pay $10,500...

I started looking at other manufacturers and found that I could get a much better price on and Arctic Cat 500 auto - $7,800.

The Ruby is not worth $2,700 more than the AC 500.

Just my 2 cents.

2700$ will buy large alloy rims, top of the line 27" tires, winch, full insurance and gas for the next few years!Yes I would say you did well and to think the AC500 and Rubicon cost almost the same price in the States so it not like you bought a inferior machine anyways. You also saved yourself the extra $500 it cost for the rumored High Lifter kit that can make a Honda selectable 4wd quad, because the Artic Cat can already do that when it is out of the box.

A fair priced Rubicon in the States is a great machine but up here in Canada it is border line retarted to even think about it as the price stands for now.

Forget $2700 more as being nuts but even if it was only $500 more I would have to have a long think about that one also.

I am sorry Tim but if you had to think about paying a extra $500 for a Rubicon you are nuts.It is obvious you have not driven both those machines!!!!.

What does a Rubicon have over any other big bore 4x4 quad that it justifies costing so much more than anything else in Canada? And don't give me the lame " But Honda is so reliable" thing because believe it or not Artic Cat,Yamaha,Suzuki,Bobardier,Kawasaki and Polaris know what there doing.
