In your first post you stated that it smoked alot, then in your second post you state that it only has 25lbs of compression, Im pretty sure something is amiss here because that machine would not start with only 25lbs of compression. When doing a compression test you need to have a well charged battery and hold the throttle wide open during cranking. You cant test compression with a closed throttle. If the machine runs, it will 80 or 90+ lbs of compression. I dont remember the spec offhand but it will be more then 125lbs if I remember right.

I checked it with the throttle closed...The reason i said it smoked alot is the guy i got it from said it smoked bad when it warmed up..then when i started it it smoked well a little bit mor than a little..sorrry about that..It does have a lot of blow by though.and 1 other thing.when I do start it it takes forever to get it going

One thing you need to try to find out from the previous owner is, was this bike a swimmer. I have saw many of these bike that have been submerged, and that wipes out the piston and rings right away. IF it has been submerged it will require a complete engine dis-assembly to prevent a rebuild from failing. Rinsing the crankcase will not save it from failing. If it is simply worn out, then a regular rebuild will do.

A lot of the TRX400's will get a low knock at idle when the rod (small end) starts getting bad .. The piston/cylinder and the valves/guides will have to be measured.. I believe 1995-96 models had the "T" in the crankcase breather hose that also routed to the bottom rear of the motor and had a duckbill breather on the end , sounds like your missing some of the breather parts ..

Then it is probably simply ready for an overhaul.
