Default 02 Rincon Engine braking problem

If the oil pressure is good, the centrifical clutch one way bearing is probably bad

100 mile days would kill my hands and arms on a Rincon, especially my hands from clamping on the brakes on every hill because the tranny won't hold you back. Some of the hills we have to decend are several miles long and 20% or more grade. On a Rubicon, you just lean back and enjoy a smoke and let the engine do the work.....LOL.

Under the front engine cover. Remove the center of the centrifical clutch. It is the bearing inside the clutch drum behind the clutch shoes. The clutch shoes engage to make the unit drive the tranny in foreward. When the tranny needs to provide engine braking , the one way bearing provides the link to the crankshaft since the clutch shoes are not engaged under certain rpms and the torque on them is in the wrong direction to keep them engaged. I have seen simular issues when a tech installs the one way bearing backwards

Rincons are simular, only the engine rpms must be high enough to provide enough oil pressure to hold open a shuttle valve, in which bypasses the torque converter to provide engine breaking directly to the crankshaft. If the Rubicon has bad oil pressure, the hydralic pumping action of the transmission may make it slip (no engine braking). Idle to low on the Rincon, same issue, no engine braking under 6 MPH because low oil pressure not bypassing the torque converter via shuttle valve not opening.
