TRX90 - Replacing the Drive Sproket
#1
Obtained two new sprokets and a chain for my son's TRX 90 - but before I start to remove the Left Crankcase Cover I want to make sure I understand how the recoil starter is setup.
I have finally obtained the service manual - useless for anything in the DriveTrain...... But it does show how to remove the Left Crankcase cover - to get at the two bolts that secure the sprocket to the cam.
My QUESTION is:
Do I need to remove the Recoil Starter assembly prior to removing the Left Crankcase cover - or will that come off as a single unit (crankcase cover and recoil starter) without screwing up the recoil mechanism....?
The service manual shows it as a removable, self contained unit secured to the cover with three bolts - but if I do not have to mess with it, I'd rather not.
Thanks!!
Joe

And the answer is NO. The recoil starter does NOT have to be removed from the cover prior to removing the cranckcase cover from the crankcase.
Having never done this before - my Yamaha is shaft driven.........
The chain had no "c-clip" like the KTM replacement that I bought.
The existing drive sproket had "excessive" play in it and came off of the cam way too easily - but the sproket's chain teeth appeared to be fine.... The new drive sproket went over the cam spline very snug - and with almost no play once the two bolts were tightened.
No problems with the rear sproket at all. Easy off, easy on.
Very smooth operation once everything was back together - as witnessed by the neighbors at 9:30 last night.......
Worth every cent.
