Default Please help!!! Shift rod snapped

Hello this is my first post and my first big problem. I realy like this forum it reminds me alot like pwctoday but for atvs. Ok my problem. My friend was riding my 3 wheeler on the beach and the shifter got caught on a log and snapped off. I am looking for advice on the best route to go and how I should take it apart to fix it. I am not sure where to take it apart to get the rod out to weld and or get a new one. Here are some pics of my problem.

Rebar for a foot peg...that's a new one!

It does look bent so that may be a problem, but my first thought was to just weld an extension on it so you don't have to tear into the trans.

I would guess what's left may have gotten bent enough to bind if the thing got torqued around enough to snap it off...

Does it turn freely with a vice grip?

Anyhow, even if it does, I think my preference would be to tear it down and replace the shift shaft. Welding it back on would be tempting, but I'd be afraid of melting the shaft seal.

Get a manual (Clymer or whatever) if you don't have one.

Good luck with it, and let us know how it turns out.

A quick fix would be to drill into the shaft and thread it, then drill into the broken off end and tap it, install a stud and screw it together, check shifter position then tack weld where it was broke.
I have been tapping them to 6mm inside. Short bursts of weld then let cool has kept from burning the shift shaft seal.
(only on request have I been rigger Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word Spam wordSpam word 'n them this way instaed of replacing the shift shaft)
