Rubicon Vs. 300ex
#3
I disagree. I have owned a 300ex and currently own a Rubicon. I agree the 300 feels quicker off the line which should be true given the weight difference, but the Rubicon is slightly faster on the top end. I have a riding buddy and he has a 300ex and he agrees that the Rubicon is faster on the top end. That said, in real world trail riding I can keep up with him and for that reason the point is moot. By the same token, the opportunity to wind out the machines is such a rarity to make the slightly higher top speed a non-issue. People really get caught up in Horsepower and accel. times or suspension travel, but the truth is what really matters is how the quad feels to you, not what some magazines test figures or opinions are about a machine. I think that Polaris makes a good quad, but it was not, in my opinion the best quad FOR ME. That doesn't mean it's not the best quad for 99% of the people out there, and I respect the decision of those who choose another make or model. We all should be thankful that we have such a variety of machines to pick from and that we are blessed enough to be able to afford this rather expensive hobby.

Well,
A Ruby cant out drag my 2-stroke Xplorer at any speed! Now I raced my friend Brain's 300ex and he beat me by about three quads to a speed of about 45mph.We quit racing after that.Perhaps if we went further I'd of won?Im just wondering how much time it takes you guys to catch the 300ex after he takes you off the line?

um- a big overweight Ford Lightning truck can out run a lightweight Honda Civic Si. You can believe that whether you see it or not. There is more to the picture than weight. The Rubicon uses 4 valves per cylinder and water cooling which allows for a higher compression ratio. The 300ex motor is also only 60% of the Rubicon's size. I have owned a 300ex and while it is not a dog, people are surprised by the power and speed of big bore "overweight 4x4" machines like the Rubicon and Sportsman. A 300ex is a relatively light quad, but uses technology that is nearly 10 years old. The newer technology and displacement of quads like the Rubicon, Sportsman, and Kodiak offer good performance in a large machine. The Sportsman 500 is one of the fastest quads out there yet it weighs twice what the 300ex does. Don't get caught up in pride over your machine and let it blind you to the fact that you are wrong. Say it with me now.... "a 300ex is not the fastest quad made". The first step to recovery is admitting that you have a problem.
