I think if I remember right I removed just the gas tank shroud. All in all pretty simple to do, just takes more time than anything running the wires neat.

I'm new to the forum and an installing a winch on a 2001 foreman. It's a Cycle country. I got the wiring down pretty much but where do I find the wire to splice into for the handle bar up / down switch.(Source of keyed power) Any help would be appreciated.

Like I posted above, I like to use the power wire for the accessory plug, since it is fused and not critical to the operation of the quad (like the wire to the ignition switch).

I believe the blk/whi is the positive wire on mine, but confirm that's correct on your 02 before you hook up to it. Also, a good soldered connection would be more reliable than using the little crimp-on tap that often comes with the winch, since it won't corrode or pull apart.

It may be easier to get to if you unhook the accessory socket's wire from where it connects to the main wiring harness.

Welcome to the forum.

Its been a lil while but I think I wired the ignition wire straight to the battery. This enables you to have power all the time regardless of key being turned on. But thats totally up too you.

Yeah, I thought about that, too, but thought in the unlikely event the handlebar switch stuck, or some kid messed with it while it was parked...

There are other times that it would be handy to use the winch w/o having to turn the key on, though.

If you go to the battery, be sure to use an inline fuse.
