Default first of many dumb questions

I have only ever owned one forwheeler before. It was a suzuki 250 quad.... Anyway, I bought two used honda 350 ranchers. One is two wheel drive and one is four. I have been reading and I dont think the 4x4 is an ES because there is a shifter pedal. Now for the dumb question. It seems to be in four wheel drive all the time! Is this right? If so is there any after market gagets that can disingage the front diff? I didnt ask the seller the other day because I thought I knew a little something about fourwheelers But it turns out I dont know that much They are bothe trx 350 ranchers 2005. My only complaint about the 4x4 is that it pushes in a turn, i.e. larger turn radius.

Yep, it feels that way because it is in 4wd all the time. Good news is you can buy a Warn locker that disengages your front differential via cable. I believe it's under $200.00 and only takes about 2 hours to install. Should fix you right up.

You can only truly tell if it is ES by the left handlebar controls. It will have up and down shift buttons. I get suprised sometimes by so many people who do not seem to know that Honda put foot shifters standard in ALL tool kits for any ES they made. All ya gotta do is bolt it on. LOL I hear somebody almost every week who says something like " I got the ES and I hope it dont go out on me and leave me stranded somewhere. " I tell em about the foot shifter that should be in their tookit and they are like HUH?

It is full time 4X4. The Warn 424 is the best mod you can do to that machine. Highly recomended!!

You said it "pushes" and that may be due to being in 4wd, but also be sure your tire pressure is properly adjusted. I find mine are very sensitive to tire pressure changes, and will handle weird if it gets off to much.

Yep you need the Warn 424 I bought one for my big bear on Ebay for around $200. It takes two people to pull the axle apart. Otherwise its a clean install. I remember it taking closer to 3 hours to be completely done. It will make steering easier and generally make the atv more fun to drive. If your familiar wit Warn their products are high quality.

ModlessG.... I assumed that your name meant you had not done any MODS to your machine....Doesn't the 4 2 4 count?

Actually I had a Mustang GT that I heavily Modified. After that I bought a G35 Coupe that I swore I would never Mod. That is where the ModlessG name came from It dosnt apply to my other toys BTw I have a Rancher 420 it has the four wheel two wheel lever. I sold my Big bear for it.

Thanks for the input. I thougt I was just an idiot and couldnt find the **** or something. In the spring Ill get me one of those swithches and make it a convertable. I actually have a service manual on the way but this four/two wheel thing was driving me crazy. The two wheel drive rancher I also bought turns on a dime and is quite a bit different to drive. (my wife's bike) .... I am glad they make such a device to take the front diff. out. Any draw backs to installing? i.e. malfunction, breakage?

I had a 2wd Rancher once. It was a great very fun machine, and surprisingly capable. It went almost everywhere my 4wd did, without a problem.
