Default Made a very stupid , and costly mistake with 420

Hey everyone,
Been a long time since I posted.

Just want to see what you guys think.
Ive had my 07 Racher 420 for almost a year ,and put about 340 miles or 42 hours on it.

About a month ago I was doing some routine mantinence on it ,and I disconnected the crank case breather tube ,and tucked it behind the plastcs.

Well I forgot to hook it back up ,and rode on ,and off for 2 weeks through creeks ,and mud holes ,and stuff like that.

One day it started shifting funny ,and the motor was ticking ,and down on power just a bit so I loaded it up ,and checked the oil ,and had about 2 qts of dirty water mixed in with the oil!!!!

I quickly went to a auto parts store ,and changed the oil 5 times with diesel oil ,and it cleaned it up alot ,but I was to late.

The bike still makes full power ,and starts right up ,but smokes VERY badly ,and ticks.
So now the bike sits at Honda waiting to be torn down.
They are supposed to call me when they know what it needs ,and go from there.

Based on your experiences, do you think my crank will be ok?
Is it going to require a full rebuild?
As long as its done right can the motor be as reliable as it was when built at the factory?

I know its going to be costly ,but anyone have a clue what a full rebuild from a dealer will cost?
They are charging me $240 for the tear down ,but they couldnt give me a estimate on the remaining cost until they get inside the motor.
I understad that ,but they couldnt even give me a worst case scenario price.

I just hope its not much more than 2k.
Any feedback will be great.

Thanks alot.

With 2 quarts of water and dirt running through the engine!!!! No, I don't think the crank will be ok.

Yes.

"As long as it's done right"...................yes it will be as reliable.
"As long as it's done right".....................
"As long as it's done right"..................... Get the point?

Might be cheaper to find a used engine to slap in it?

While you have it torn down, replace evry single little thing in there that might have been effected!!! That's better than having to tear it down again in a month because something wasn't good!

Once you have grit in a motor and it's been run until it makes noises and smokes, yes it is going to require a full rebuild including a crank.

Don't cut corners at this point. It would be better to borrow money or wait and save rather than reusing a few hundred $ worht of damaged parts, and having to go back into it.

Sorry to hear about your plight. Hopefully it's in the hands of a good mechanic and it will be good as new. Let us know what the price is, and how it turns out.

Oh no,
Im definently not going to cut corners.
I was just curious how much damage I really caused.

I told Honda from the begining that I wanted a full rebuild ,but they kept telling they wont know until they get inside!!

Why!! Just price every part out ,and the labor!!
I know its going to be expensive Id just like to know how expensive ,but they have had it a little over a month now ,and no call.

Ill post when they let me know.
Thanks for the responses.

Well when I took it in they told me that they had a couple of big jobs in front of me.
They did stress to me that it would take a good bit of time ,and im ok with that.

A gold wing frame swap ,and something else.
Im not in a rush I just hope they fix it right.

Im not to worried about the cost unless it starts creeping close to 3k.
At that point I might as well get a new ATV!!

I Asked them if they could sell me a brand new motor for me to install myself ,but they said no new motors are avalible.
