Get a multi-meter set it on volts DC , put the red lead on the starter post (+) and put the black lead to a good ground (-) on the engine then push the starter button (with the key on) if it has 12V then you probably need the starter re-built (new brushes) ...

Starter brushes are bad.
Try turning on the key, hold the starter button while tugging on the pull starter. If the starter takes off, for sure the brushes are bad. Same thing, only tapping on the starter while holding the starter button, if the starter takes off, brushes are bad.

If it starts with the pull cord, which I found last night ,and it started on the first pull, then after it started I shut it off, now it starts with the push button. Is there something I should get looked at or change as I dont want to get stranded in the middle of lake winnebago.... yes at least it starts with the pullcord but I definitly want it to start with the button.
