Default 420 mystery oil problem

Well, if it isn't from deep water or from a pressure washer, I would think that would leave coolant as the only logical source...

I'm sure the dealer or a Honda rep will work at diagnosing what caused the problem. If the dealer tells you what happened, post back.

I'm also curious as to what went wrong...

To me the filter does not show water contamination. Looks waaaaaaaay thin though. Does it smell fuelly? It just looks like it ground up. It looks like solid contamination to me. From just a guess I think the lab sample is going to come back showing high silica contamination.
Won't be the first time some basturd put something in the sump for fun.
Let us know what you find.

Two more hi-rez photos, close-up of the filter and one of the oil. I've reduced the file size to allow faster downloading but can upload to my ftp site the full-sized photos if anyone would like to see them.

It almost looks like a combination of diesel and mud or something... weird.

I have a gut feeling it may have been a mistake that was not noticed or fixed. When new bikes are shipped to the dealer they are delivered completely dry right? I'm wondering if a new employee may have accidently put coolant (or whatever) into the crankcase before discovering his/her error but never corrected it?

Lots of fibers in the filter. Are those metal or maybe clutch debris????

I had a Warrior many years ago, and every oil change it had a substantial pile of clutch debris in the filter. Clutch lasted for years anyway.....

I opened up the jar I was keeping the oil in and noiticed a very heavy gasoline odor and at the bottom of the jug was aboujt 1/8" of thick black sludge. The rest of the oil looks exactly green pea soup but does not feel thin or watery.

I don't have the filter anymore, it was given to the dealer upon receiving a new replacement bike. There were in addition to all the hair-like items, small blue colored particles as well. You can see the blue particles in the close-up photo.

Are the small hair-like fibers a normal indication of clutch wear? I'm guess the blue particles to be bits of some type of sealant mabey? When I pull the oil from my replacement bike I'll look to see if simular particles show up on the filter.

Automobile factories will put fibers in the cooling system (same as the stop leak stuff you buy at the auto store), to plug any tiny holes there might be....seeing that they don't want to see the vehicle come back for leaks on warranty.

Could be they do the same with quads????
